Kunsthal Extra City is a visual arts institution that seeks to explore ideas of the city and its potential for depicting different visions of our future. As a consequence of this, Extra City therefore encourages new links between contemporary art and artists (national and international), as well as researchers, and citizens.

Academie Berchem, located in the neighbourhood of Extra City, is similarly concerned with creating a dialogue between itself and its milieu, and as a result, faces the same challenges. The academy works with students from all walks of life, each with their own background and story and through workshops given at the school the outside world is given visual form.

In anticipation of its re-opening on 8 September 2017, Kunsthal Extra City will be opening its exhibition spaces with a selection of projects from different art schools under the name Inter City.

‘Inter City: Lerarenexpo Academie Berchem’, will exhibit the work of thirty teachers from Academie Berchem; reflecting on the city within the walls of Extra City.
