The Night of the Visual Arts is a celebration of contemporary art in the form of a festive evening, turning into a party at night. From the start until 01am, attendants will be able to visit multiple exhibitions throughout the building of De Studio, such as the Headspace video exhibition in the basement and De Centrale Periferie, a coming together of works from artists invited by the provincial institutions on the first floor, as well as a video program by the HISK (Higher Institute for Fine Arts, Ghent).

During the entire night, contributions by Antwerp based artists Liesbeth Doms, Daan Gielis, Pascal Petrus, Dennis Tyfus and Stef Van Looveren can be found on the ground floor.

In short, the Night of the Visual Arts will feature performances, dj’s and art until the early morning.

2013

Installation, variable dimensions.
Materials: led spots, DMX trackpad

Collection: Courtesy of the artist.

As its title suggests, this installation is the result of a collaboration between Doms and the professional aura reader Bart Vanwynsberghe translating a reading of the artist’s aura into a display of coloured light. On various occasions the colours change, based on new readings of the artist’s aura at any one moment. The light fills the space yet it also remains empty, suggesting the inadequate anecdotal nature of biographies, questioning the desire and false necessity to make connections between the biography and content of an artist’s work.
